The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (Ed Fund) released a report last week, “The Public Health Approach to Gun Violence Prevention,” which outlines how a public health approach can be applied to reducing the U.S. epidemic of gun violence.

In recent years, nearly 40,000 people have been killed and more than 71,000 injured by firearms annually in the United States. The Ed Fund uses a public health and equity lens to identify and implement evidence-based policy solutions and programs to reduce gun violence in all of its forms.

By comparing the public health successes of car safety regulations with similar policy measures that could reduce gun violence, the report lays out a means of reducing the epidemic of gun violence by addressing both firearm access and the factors that contribute to and protect from gun violence.
