Washington, DC – Franciscans know well the story of Francis of Assisi crossing the battle lines of the 5th crusade to begin to build a relationship with the Sultan of Egypt. The eventual friendship formed between the two and the effect each had on the other, along with the message of peace in a time of great violence inspires us still today, some 800+ years later.
It is with this desire for peace that we join faith organizations to cry for de-escalation of violence in Israel and Palestine.
The Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) is calling on the Biden Administration to play a proactive role in bringing about justice and peace in Jerusalem and throughout Israel-Palestine. We invite our members and friends to take action and urge an end to all violence.
