On April 21, members of the Mid-Hudson Valley, NY Franciscan Justice Circle participated in a viewing and discussion of the film, The Letter-A Message for Our Earth, based on Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical Laudato Si. The showing took place at Christ Lutheran Church in Woodstock, NY and was attended by parishioners from the Roman Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church, and the Episcopalian Church. All seemed to be touched by the urgency of the message and the contrast of beauty/devastation presented in the film. On April 20, Youth Center members in Woodstock, and an FJC member, participated in a town cleanup and Earth Day celebration with a letter writing campaign, an alert on plastics reduction, and focus on being aware of one’s place in history. On April 22, some Circle members organized a conversation with students of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie concerning human rights injustice in Nicaragua, where students showed great interest and had meaningful dialogue.
