Franciscans Celebrate and Applaud Supreme Court DACA Decision

Urge bi-partisan legislation that invests in a permanent pathway to citizenship as next step

Washington, D.C. – The Franciscan Action Network (FAN) welcomes the Supreme Court’s decision to reverse the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“We applaud this important decision of the Court. Franciscan-hearted people everywhere rejoice in the justice of this moment. These people are as much children of America as any of us. Now Congress has the moral obligation to support the Court’s justice with legislation that ends in real citizenship for the Dreamers. We call on Congress to stop posturing and move now to regularize the status of Dreamers and provide a way to the citizenship they deserve,” said FAN’s executive director, Stephen Schneck.

Franciscans hold firmly our belief in the sacred dignity of all persons and work consistently for legislation that provides permanent security for the 800,000 eligible DACA recipients living in the United States.

While we celebrate today’s important decision by the Court, we are firmly resolved to continue our work advocating for bi-partisan legislation that upholds our values and invests in a permanent pathway to citizenship without separating families.
