Every day that goes by is another day that an immigrant family lives in fear of deportation or detention. This is wrong. Families belong together. This call goes to the heart of the issue. To support our immigrant friends we have to hold our Senators accountable. Your support in this effort can make a difference ahead of the debate on our nation’s moral priorities through the FY2020 Department of Homeland Security appropriation’s bill.

On, Monday, September 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM, Catholic Sisters and interfaith partners will gather on Capitol Hill. FAN’s own Sisters, Marie Lucey and Maria Orlandini will join other faith leaders to deliver a letter signed by thousands of people to the Senate before the debate on next year’s Department of Homeland Security funding begins, and days before the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which Pope Francis set as Sunday, September 29, 2019. Demand an end, call your Senator.

When you call, here is what you might say:
“Hi my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [TOWN]. As a person of faith who values our immigrant families, I’m calling to ask you to reduce funding for deportation, detention, and border militarization in the FY2020 Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill.

I ask [SENATOR] to withhold funding from CBP and ICE that enables them to raid communities, separate families, and detain children and families.”

Our conscience has been awakened to the moral crisis at our border and in our communities. We call on Congress to do all it can to uphold the dignity of every member of our immigrant family. We ask our Senators to support a DHS appropriations bill that reduces funding for deportation, detention, and border militarization in FY2020. Once you’ve made your call, let us know how it went.
