As Franciscans and as Christians, our faith teaches us that we must recognize in each person the essential humanity and inherent dignity given by God.
As the negotiations on the Build Back Better Agenda are reaching conclusion, one of the outstanding issues remaining is whether to include HOUSING assistance. Some initiatives being considered are: expanding housing choice vouchers, rebuilding our deteriorating stock of public housing investments, and addressing long term needs through increasing the supply of affordable housing accessible to the lowest income households.
Through our involvement with the Washington Interfaith Staff Committee (WISC), the Franciscan Action Network has advocated for this legislation by signing on to a letter to the White House urging the president to make housing investments a high priority. The letter also states our collective belief that housing is “a foundational need, essential to the success and wellbeing of the whole human person.”
