Inspired by youth activists as well as Reverend Barber’s Moral Mondays and Randall Robinson’s often daily anti-apartheid protests, actress and activist Jane Fonda has moved to Washington, D.C. and instituted weekly demonstrations she calls Fire Drill Fridays at the US Capitol to demand that political leaders take action to address the climate emergency we are in.
From her website:
“I’ve moved to Washington, D.C. to be closer to the epicenter of the fight for our climate. Every Friday through January, I will be leading weekly demonstrations on Capitol Hill to demand that action by our political leaders be taken to address the climate emergency we are in. We can’t afford to wait.”
Each week the rally holds a different theme which is connected to climate through a digital teach-in with a panel of experts and people on the frontline of the climate emergency. The faith community has been invited to join the Fire Drill Friday on December 6th, which has a theme of migration, human dignity and climate.
