The University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois, founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate and a member of the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities (AFCU), facilitates a 4-course online Franciscan Studies certificate program available for anyone wishing to enhance their understanding of the Franciscan tradition. These online courses taught by Sr. Margaret Klotz, Director of the Franciscan Center at Cardinal Stritch University, strengthen knowledge of Franciscan history and tradition in art and literature, and help the participant gain personal insight into being more Franciscan in their personal and professional lives.

The Franciscan Studies program was originally developed by staff at the University of St. Francis and launched in 2007 courtesy of a grant funded by AFCU. The program continues to be supported and promoted by AFCU, and twenty-two participants from all over the world earned their Certificates of Completion last year! The USF Solutions Resource Center will offer its annual online certificate program in Franciscan Studies beginning Sept. 23. It was designed to provide a unified understanding of the Franciscan tradition, strengthen students’ knowledge of Franciscan history and prepare them to form Franciscan experiences in their personal and professional lives.
