St. Bonaventure tells us that to love God, we need to love all that God created. He teaches us that what we choose to do here on this earth will have an effect on it. As part of FAN’s commitment to care for all of creation, we have participated in the Polar Bear Plunge for the last few years. This annual event is organized by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) and helps raise funds for important local grassroots efforts on climate justice. This year, our friends from Climate Caretakers are joining us, aligning with their mission of mobilizing Evangelical Christians to learn, pray and act to protect the creation from climate change.
The FAN team is growing! On January 28th, two of FAN’s Board Members, Fr. Jacek Orzechowski and Ms. Kelly Moltzen will jump into the ice cold waters of the Potomac River, joined by John Elwood from the Steering Group of Climate Caretakers. Brian Webb, Executive Director of Climate Caretakers, will be participating remotely, by cutting through some pretty thick ice in Houghton, NY. FAN Executive Director, Patrick Carolan and FAN Board Vice President, Fr. Mike Lasky will participate remotely in Assisi, Italy as they meet to strategize for global climate justice with our friends at the Global Catholic Climate Movement.
We love a friendly rivalry. So we are instituting a challenge amongst our team mates. Who can raise the most? The winner will get lunch or after work beers with the development team of Marty Dunleavy and Janine Walsh. Please help us reach our team goal of raising $5,000 by donating $5, $10, $25, $50 or more to your favorite FAN Team Member on their individual contribution page below.
Supporting the plunge is as easy as a one-two click. Simply pull out your credit card and click your favorite team member’s name above to visit their fundraising page to make a donation. How’s that for easy?! You also have the option of sending in a personal check. This can be made out to “CCAN” and sent to P.O. Box 11138, Takoma Park, MD 20913. Just make sure to write “FAN’s PLUNGE” on the memo line so that the gift is processed to sponsor us.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support of our efforts to make a positive change in our world. Our team will be gearing up to run into the water the morning of January 28th and would love for you to come down to National Harbor and join the fun! There will be plenty of hot cocoa and treats for everyone!
Peace and all good~
