Climate Campaign Webinar

The climate team held a successful climate change webinar Thursday, January 9th.

The topic was moral divestment and reinvestment in ecological energy sources. We started off with Br. John Kerr using St. Francis' "Letter to the Rulers" as a prayer and thought provoking initiative.

Next, we had Rev. Fletcher Harper, Executive Director of GreenFaith who spoke about the reason for divestment from a faith perspective. He pointed out how most faith groups have an ethical use of money and a history of investment screening which makes them the logical groups to bring up the question for change. We learned about the "Filthy Fifteen", the largest and dirtiest of the coal-mining and -burning companies.

Frank Morris, who is a FAN board member, taught us about the different ways large cities, like New York City, are investing and accomplishing green technology. We also learned about companies that are supporting competitive innovation that supplies the needs for the common good as well as a mutual fund dedicated to Faith and Family Values, Epiphany Funds

As a active follow up, it was shared that Canticle Campus is offering two online classes starting January 26, 2014. They are based on the books, "Francis of Assisi and the Future of Faith" by Daniel Horan, OFM and "Care for Creation" (a franciscan spirituality of the earth) by Ilia Delio, OSF. You can find more information about the classes on the Canticle Campus website.

We hope you can join us for the next webinar. Keep checking here for more information. Posted below is the PowerPoint presentation, if you would like to share it.
