At the invitation of Faith in Public Life, FAN joins the fast for comprehensive immigration reform from November 12th to December 12th on the National Mall. Quite a few friars, sisters, seculars and Franciscan-hearted people have signed up for a 24-hour water-only fast. Others have indicated that, although unable to come to D.C., they will fast on a given day from their home location. Faith groups join other groups in this fast urging Congress to address immigration reform this year. The fast will open with a prayer service at 11 a.m. on November 12, and Patrick Carolan, FAN's executive director will be among the initial fasters. On each subsequent day, there will be a Franciscan presence in the fasting tent on the Mall. We urge you to pray about this and consider joining in the fast.
Your role will be essential to lifting up the moral crisis created by our broken immigration system. Fasting with us will be our brothers and sisters from faith, labor, community and civil rights organizations. Your participation sends a national message to Congress, letting them know that we cannot afford to wait any longer for a commonsense solution to our nation’s broken immigration system.
If you can't make it to DC, you can stand in solidarity from your home, as Fr. Richard Rohr is doing. Let us know what day you will be fasting for comprehensive immigration reform. We have to continue to keep the momentum going!
Send us a note telling us what day you will be fasting at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
