Despite Executive Order, Franciscans Continue to Decry “Zero Tolerance” Policy

Washington, DC - After the announcement yesterday of the executive order ending family separation, the Franciscan Action Network (FAN) continues to decry the “zero tolerance” policy that criminally prosecutes those crossing the border. It appears the President’s executive order opens the door to indefinite family detention and does not solve the problem of child detention.

Among rumors of the cruel treatment being administered by border patrol, including toys taken away, siblings not being allowed to stay together or even touch each other, and drugs being administered to children, the Franciscan Action Network deepens our commitment to pray and work for justice for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

We must end criminal prosecution of those seeking asylum, reunite separated children with the parents, and not detain families indefinitely.
