Franciscans Join other Faith and Community Leaders in Urging Congress to Cease Cruel Treatment of Families at the Border
WASHINGTON, DC — The Franciscan Action Network will be joining Faith in Action (formerly known as PICO National Network), DMV Congregation Network, and other faith and community leaders in an action tomorrow at the Russell Senate office building rotunda to protest the cruel treatment of immigrants by the Trump administration. Several children will be involved in the protest, lying down with mylar survival blankets like those being given to immigrant children who have been separated from their parents in Texas.
Advocates will pray with the children who represent those being detained in Texas and call on Congress to stop the separation and criminalization policies against people seeking refuge. Leaders also will call on Congress to defund the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which is carrying out the president’s hateful agenda against immigrants.
Following the protest, the children and leaders will deliver letters and blankets to congressional offices.
