We have worked long and hard for authentic immigration reform legislation and may feel discouraged or doubtful about it ever coming to a vote, much less being enacted. But along comes Pentecost, celebration of the power of the Spirit! Just when the first disciples were feeling confused and powerless, Pentecost happened, and with it renewed energy and enthusiasm for taking the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world. Pentecost 2014 is the perfect time to set ablaze our commitment to work for immigration reform, especially since there are indications that a bill may be brought to the House this summer.
FAN has served on a committee to create a Justice for Immigrants resource for prayer, reflection and action during the days leading up to the Feast of Pentecost on June 8th. For each day a particular Gift of the Spirit will be linked with an aspect of immigration reform. Suggestions for actions are offered. The resource can be used by individuals, groups or parishes.
“On Fire for Immigration Reform: A Pentecost Resource,” is posted below in both English and Spanish and on the JFI website. FAN members are encouraged to use the resource and share it with others. “Come, Holy Spirit, come!”
