We have called, visited and written to our elected members in Congress and will continue to do so. But at this critical moment in the movement for immigration reform, members of the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (IIC) believe that we must also engage in spiritual practices common to all our faith traditions, prayer and fasting. Therefore, we encourage our members to engage in 40 days of prayer, fasting and advocacy in solidarity with those whose lives are directly impacted by unjust immigration policies and who cry out for reforms in our country’s immigration system.
FAN has served as part of a planning committee to develop the campaign, Fast Action for Immigration Reform. Please visit www.fastaction.us and make a commitment to pray, fast and act. Note that families, parishes, and other groups can commit as a group, as well as individuals. In scripture readings, Abraham “sojourned in the promised land as in a foreign country” (Heb. 11:9) May we members of the Franciscan family accompany those who sojourn in our country by participating in 40 days of prayer, fasting and action.
