On February 24th, Senators Corker (R-TN) and Menendez (D-NJ) introduced a landmark bill, the End Modern Slavery Initiative Act. This legislation would authorize $250 million in U.S. Funds to leverage a $1.5 billion global fund to combat human trafficking around the world. This would be the most dramatic increase in funding for anti-human trafficking efforts ever advanced, through leveraging U.S. leadership and foreign aid to attract investments from the private sector and foreign governments.
A friend of FAN, Mara Vanderslice Kelly is leading an effort to build support for the bill. Mara says that her organization, United Way Worldwide, has made the fight against human trafficking, and this legislation in particular, one of its top priorities for the 114th Congress.
