Last Friday, this statement was sent to Melissa Rogers, the Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. FAN signed on as an organization that is working in solidarity with migrants and refugees. In the absence of comprehensive reform, we continue to strongly urge that the President reconsider immediate administrative relief, because this is truly a life and death matter for so many. The U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops’ Committee on Migration and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network have offered detailed recommendations which highlight the moral and legal rationale for bold administrative relief.
Our desire for an approach that respects the dignity and rights of all people resonates with the recent words of Pope Francis, "They are human people, I stress this, who are appealing for solidarity and assistance, who need urgent action but also and above all understanding and kindness." Through simple gestures, like the signing of a letter, we pray that hearts be opened to the grace of God in caring for our borthers and sisters.
