The mission of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) is stated as, "Embracing the Gospel value of welcoming the stranger, CLINIC promotes the dignity and protects the rights of immigrants in partnership with a dedicated network of Catholic and community legal immigration programs." To further this mission, the staff have developed the toolkit (attached below) as a way to to help understand refugee resettlement here in the United States. From basics on refugee law to the process for resettlement and benefits that are allowed, this toolkit tells in plain language what a person goes through to become settled in this country. There are economic and public policy arguments supporting resettlement along with tips for creating community support for refugees.
If your community is open to developing relationships with refugees, you may want to start with a Welcome Dinner. Sitting down together to share a meal is a timeless tradition that cuts across all cultures and religions. The act of communities inviting recently arrived immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers holds immense meaning, offering a welcoming space to build relationships and learn from one another. This is a great way to show hospitality and to urge Members of Congress to support refugee resettlement. The second attachment below is a logistics guide to planning a Welcome Dinner with helpful ideas and steps to take to be sure your dinner is a success.
FAN urges all members and communities to support these initiatives. Please let us know how you are getting involved by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
